The province of Ontario is one of the largest automotive manufacturing jurisdictions in the integrated North American market and has been an active member of the Automotive Communities Program since 2003. Ontario is home to a dozen assembly plants and over 400 major supplier facilities, which collectively employ more than 100,000 people directly. The province recognised the value of the ACP's mandate to link the major traditional automotive communities in the central automotive region to each other and to the changing global automotive industry. Not only is the province itself a member of ACP, but it also supports the membership of five partnering Ontario communities including the Southwestern Ontario Marketing Alliance, London Economic Development Corporation, Canada's Technology Triangle, Windsor Essex Economic Development Commission, and the Sarnia Lambton Economic Partnership. The program allows these key automotive communities to gather market intelligence and share best practices on investment attraction and retention. Participation in the ACP is part of Ontario's strategic approach to this key industry, which has resulted in nearly $8 billion worth of investment announcements as well as the attraction or retention of thousands of jobs.
