Automotive Communities Program - Communities working together

How Well-Positioned is Your Community to Partner with Your Companies?

For months, we have been talking about suppliers that had to cut capacity during the recession and how this could create potential supply issues when the vehicle manufacturers increase production. The article link that follows demonstrates that this is indeed a real concern. Ford was forced to idle a truck plant in Dearborn this week due to an inadequate supply of engines from its Brook Park, Ohio facility, which in turn was facing a shortage of parts from a couple of its key suppliers.

From the Detroit Free Press, January 25, 2010: Ford truck plant to shut for week

If these suppliers were in your community, would you have known of their problems meeting orders? Could you have helped? Issues like this underscore how important it is to maintain strong relationships with companies in your communities, however big or small, so you can offer assistance when needed.

CAR’s upcoming Roads to Renewal II conference in March offers panels specifically designed to highlight these issues, such as maintaining strong company/community relationships, what companies need from communities in this new era, and discussions on accessing capital in non-traditional ways. We encourage you and your colleagues to attend this timely, topical conference, as it will help you understand the many ways you can be a partner to the companies in your region and prosper together.

Please visit the event website for more information and to register. ACP members receive a discounted rate of $200 to attend. http://roadstorenewal.cargroup.org

We look forward to seeing you and your colleagues at this exciting event.
