ACP June 2009 - Lima
June 17-18, 2009
The June 2009 ACP meeting brought members to Lima, OH, the home of Ford’s Lima Engine Plant as well as the Automotive Task Force, known for its effectiveness in the community.
On the evening of the 17th, members were treated to a tour of University of Northwestern Ohio’s High Performance Motorsports facility where we saw the enthusiasm of the faculty as they described the program and its many offerings.
The ACP meeting itself was hosted by Ford’s Lima Engine Plant, where the Duratech 3.5L V6 and the Vulcan 3.0L V6 engines are built. After welcome remarks from Kim Hill, Director of the ACP, Adrian Price, the Plant Manager, gave members an overview of the plant, its operations, and the manufacturing work teams program.
Following Mr. Price was Mayor David Berger, the mayor of Lima, who explained in detail how the Automotive Task Force has been successful in keeping Ford’s Engine Plant and various other manufacturing facilities in the area, while also transitioning facilities from companies that are leaving to other companies that can put them to use and continue to employ members of the community.
Sean McAlinden, Executive Vice President of Research and Chief Economist, and Bernard Swiecki, Senior Project Manager, also provided their insights on the status of the industry and relevant new products.
