The State of Indiana

Indiana’s automotive industry is located throughout the state, and is comprised of six assembly plants, three transmission plants, two stamping plants, two engine plants, and over 340 automotive suppliers. These facilities directly employ roughly 58,000 workers in Indiana. Additionally, over $540 million was spent on automotive research and development in 2007.

Indiana is a major vehicle manufacturing state, producing over 882,000 cars and light trucks in 2010.  The state has seen significant growth in vehicle production over the last decade, up from 591,000 vehicles produced in 2000.  Vehicle manufacturers include both domestic and international automakers, with facilities relying heavily on the U.S. automotive supply base—both within and outside of Indiana. Many of these suppliers do significant business with the Detroit Three companies.
