The State of Illinois

Illinois’ automotive industry is located primarily in the northeastern portion of the state, and is comprised of three assembly plants, two service parts operations, a stamping plant, and nearly 300 automotive suppliers. These facilities directly employ roughly 25,000 workers in Illinois. In addition, over $208 million was spent on automotive research and development in 2007.

Illinois is a major vehicle manufacturing state, producing almost 308,000 cars and light trucks in 2010. Vehicle manufacturers include both domestic and international automakers, with facilities relying heavily on the U.S. automotive supply base—both within and outside of Illinois. Many of these suppliers do significant business with the Detroit Three companies.
