History
In May, 2002 the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) received an 18-month grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation to create a non-profit, community-industry partnership called the Automotive Communities Partnership (formerly Program) (ACP).The stated purpose of the ACP was to link the major traditional centers of automotive activity to each other and to companies in the changing North American industry to improve the likelihood of regional automotive renewal.
Beginning in early 2004—at the end of the start-up grant period—the ACP has been successfully re-funded through the contributions of its participating communities, states, provinces, and other supporting entities.
