Once again, the first week of August welcomed ACP members to CAR's annual Management Briefing Seminars. During the ACP meeting, members and invited guests heard from several speakers on a variety of relevant topics.

Bernard Swiecki of CAR spoke about the upcoming trade mission to South Korea, currently scheduled for November 14-18.  ACP members are encouraged to participate, and the proposed schedule includes visits to GM and Hyundai facilities as well as one-on-one meetings during the Korea Autoparts & Auto-related Industries (KOAA) show. Discussions with potential sponsors are currently underway and final pricing and schedule information will be sent out to ACP members soon.

Tom Kerr of the White House Council on Recovery for Auto Communities and Workers discussed how the office plans to work with communities, and also announced the office's new executive director, Jay Williams, former Mayor of Youngstown, OH.

Ford's Charlie Pryde then spoke of the auto industry's need for another international crossing over the Detroit River. For several years, the governments of Michigan and Canada have been in discussions to construct a new bridge connecting Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario. Based on the results of several studies, these governments have identified a preferred corridor for the proposed bridge (the New International Trade Crossing, or NITC), and the Canadian government is fully committed to constructing the bridge.

Finally, Kim Hill provided attendees with an update of research CAR is working on, including the Repurposed Auto Facilities study, a study on bio-materials in automobiles, and the NITC.
