Northwest Ohio Regional Economic Development Association
NORED: 12 Counties, One VoiceNorthwest Ohio Regional Economic Development Association (NORED) is a non-profit association of economic development practitioners and partners spanning 12 counties throughout Northwest Ohio. It is a forum for the exchange of information among its members and others aimed at increasing job opportunities and improving the quality of life throughout the region. NORED provides professional development programs for its members, advocates for legislative changes to enhance economic development, and implements programs to market the benefits of locating in Northwest Ohio.
It has been said that manufacturing in Northwest Ohio always has involved “metal bending,” with automotive a major player. Lucas County (Toledo) is the home of Jeeps, with 2-door and 4-door Wranglers produced in North America’s first supplier park. At this $2.1 billion site, metal pieces are welded together into frames in one plant, sent to another facility where the bodies are painted, then to a third plant where the painted bodies are placed on chaises made there, and finally moved to a final assembly facility. Also at the same location is a $1.2 billion assembly plant for the Dodge Nitro and Jeep Liberty.
Northwest Ohio also is home to a General Motors transmission plant in Lucas County, a General Motors foundry in Defiance County, a Chrysler machining plant in Wood County, a Ford Motor Co.-managed automotive lighting plant in Erie County, and a multitude of automotive parts suppliers on all Tiers.
NORED covers Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Hancock, Henry, Lucas, Ottawa, Paulding, Sandusky, Seneca, Williams, and Wood counties.
