The area has been the site of many breakthroughs, including the invention of ethyl gasoline in 1923, the first Chevrolet Corvette in 1953, GM’s engine ignition spark timing system in 1969, unleaded gasoline engines in the 1970s, the electric Chevrolet Volt in 2009 and now great strides in fuel cell and biogas technologies.
The freeways of Michigan are a testament to the state's long love affair with the automobile. Major freeways I-75, I-69 and US-23 run from Mexico to Canada through Genesee County. CSX and Canadian National rail lines intersect here to create significant opportunity for product movement. The area is home to Bishop International Airport, one of the fastest-growing regional airports in the country with strengths in passenger and freight transportation.
