South Central Indiana Economic Development Group
South Central Indiana has an outstanding transportation link because it includes Interstate 65, I-64 and I-74. These major highways serve the "auto-supplier corridor" that provides excellent access to all major markets in the Midwest and the southern United States. Our region has a population of 450,000 people and 250,000 in the Workforce, most with advanced manufacturing skills. The location can be best explained by the fact that there are more than 25 auto related employers with 200 workers or more and these companies have a total employment of more than 15,000 workers. Many smaller specialty crafts are also in operation throughout the region.
A recent testimony to the quality workforce and availability of suppliers was demonstrated by the fact that Honda just opened in an assembly plant in the eastern part of our region in 2008.
